What Are The Parts Of A Cigar?

What are the different parts of a cigar you ask? Many of us long-time smokers enjoy our stogies without learning the basic parts of our cigars. While you can definitely enjoy a cigar without knowing how it was put together, learning the basic parts of it can be instrumental in helping you choose the best quality cigars as well as in making your own.

The first thing many smokers notice about a cigar is the wrapper, which is the layer of tobacco on the outside of a cigar. A cigar’s wrapper is very important because it provides so much flavor to the cigar. The best quality tobacco leaves are usually used to construct the wrapper. They range in color from very clear to very dark.

Binders are known as the “intermediate leaves”. They are used to hold the tobacco filler together. The Binder leaves are tobacco that must be strong enough to hold the filler together but has enough compatible flavor to blend properly with the filler and wrapper. And lastly, the binder leaves must burn well.

Last but certainly not least is the filler used to make a cigar. The filler is tobacco. Generally, the filler can be either long or short. The long filler consists of whole tobacco leaves, while the short filler consists of scraps.
